Hubject and Windrose Bring Automatic Plug&Charge to Electric Trucks
Using the worldwide ISO 15118-20 standard, a Windrose truck and the charger recognize each other on their own — the driver just plugs in and charging starts, with no card to swipe and no app to open.
Windrose and Hubject have partnered to make truck charging completely automatic. It uses a worldwide rulebook called ISO 15118-20 — "ISO" stands for the International Organization for Standardization, the body that sets shared technical standards used around the world. When the driver plugs the cable into the truck, the truck and the charger recognize each other by themselves, charging begins, and payment is handled automatically. There is nothing to tap, swipe, or log in to. This feature is called Plug&Charge.
It works with both of the main high-power charger types used by trucks. The first is the Combined Charging System (CCS), the plug most fast chargers use today. The second is the newer Megawatt Charging System (MCS), which delivers far more power so a heavy truck can charge much faster. Supporting both means Windrose trucks work with the chargers available now and with the faster ones being built for the future.
